Joan M. Wisely, 87, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life were held Monday, Nov. 11 at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Stephen Mueller officiated. Burial was in Galva Cemetery, Galva. A visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be left to Concordia Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo assisted the family with arrangements.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1926, in Kewanee, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Bennett) Greiert. She was a 1944 graduate of Wethersfield High School. She married James T. Wisely on Jan. 31, 1951, in Kewanee. He died in 1971. She worked as a switchboard receptionist at Kewanee Hospital for 15 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo, the Concordia Lutheran Ladies (CLL) and taught Sunday school at the church for many years. Joan enjoyed sewing, crosswords, Cardinals' baseball and Packers' football.
Survivors include three daughters, Martha (Dan) Fleming of Geneseo; Deborah Lineberry of Katy, Texas; and Karen Wisely of Denton, Texas; four sons, Thomas (Jamie) Wisely of Chillicothe; Rodney Wisely of Geneseo; Greg (Juanita) Wisely of Prophetstown and Mark Wisely of Atkinson; 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Janet Gibson in 1992; one grandson, Tim Wisely; one brother and one sister.
