  • Jacob N. “Jake” Favre, 84, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013. A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter will officiate. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Jacob N. Favre Memorial Fund.
    Jake was born on Feb. 4, 1929, in Edwardsville, the son of Jacob and Anna Mae (Slightom) Favre. He married Laura J. Ludwig on Aug. 10, 1947, in Mt. Olive. Jake was a superintendent for Edwards Construction Company, Geneseo for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
    Jake was a member of First United Methodist Church in Geneseo and the Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990. He was very community oriented and donated many hours putting lights up at Bollen Field, the Barn Theatre and the football field. He loved volunteering for community events in town Jake was an avid Cardinals’ fan, loved NASCAR racing, reading western novels and loved spending time with his family.
    Survivors include his wife, Laura; son, Wayne (Christina Hellwich) Favre of Nordland, Wash.; daughters, Yvonne “Bonnie” Favre of Rock Island, Catherine (Scott) Pulling of Port St. Joe, Fla.; and Jackie (Mike) Skiles of Geneseo; six grandchildren, Joe, Aubry, Michael, Kari, Jacob and Dana; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Sharon Favre in 1983, and five brothers and five sisters.
