Genevieve L. "Ginger" Alexander, 90, of Geneseo, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, at Heartland Healthcare Center in Moline. A funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 24 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Ltd., Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee officiated. A visitation was held one hour prior to services. Burial was Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Alsip. Memorials may be made to the Ginger Alexander Memorial Fund.
Ginger was born on March 20, 1923, in Chicago, the daughter of Mathias and Cecelia (Norek) Faust. She graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago and went on to graduate from the University of Illinois. She married C. Ray Miller in Chicago. He preceded her in death. She later married John A. Alexander in September 1958, in Chicago. He died in 1996. She worked as a secretary for U.S. Gypsom Co. and then for John Alexander and Assc., in Chicago.
Ginger volunteered at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago for more than 25 years. She traveled extensively to many zoos and enjoyed the companionship of her friends during her travels. She enjoyed painting and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her three daughters, Rayanne (Stan) Burrack of Geneseo, Nancy Alexander (Larry Wall) and Susan Midlil; five grandchildren, Laura (Will), David, Alex, Robert and Elizabeth; her brother, Norman Faust and her sister, Eileen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, C. Ray Miller and John Alexander; two sisters and one brother.
