William E. Floto, 78, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Emergency Room. A funeral service celebrating his life was held Saturday, Nov. 30 at First United Methodist Church, Geneseo. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A visitation was held prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the William Floto Memorial Fund. Vandemore Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1935, in Geneseo, the son of Ernest Floto and Helen (Withrow) Floto-Terpening. He was a graduate of Geneseo High School. He married Ruth E. Dersham on Oct. 23, 1954, at First United Methodist Church in Geneseo. William worked as a machinist for International Harvester Works in East Moline for 28 years, retiring in 1992.
William was a member of First United Methodist in Geneseo. He also was a member of the Big Six Studebaker Club. He enjoyed working on his old cars. He also enjoyed playing cards, word games, and working on his computer. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters, Cindi (Rick) Cathelyn of Geneseo, Sue (Pat) Boone of Geneseo and Victoria Floto of Spring Hill, Fla.; sons, Michael (Carrie) Floto of Cambridge, Bobby Floto of Tampa, Fla., and James Floto of Rock Island; grandchildren, Christy, Jessica, Amanda, Ryan, Nicole, Vince, Donavon, Elaina and Justine; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, John (Helen) Floto of Long Island, N.Y., and Loren (Jan) Floto of Rockton; and sisters, Carol Boyd of Geneseo and Gail Edwards of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Deborah.
