  • Evelyn Pauline Loucks, 95, of Geneseo, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. A memorial visitation celebrating her life was held Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Rock Island National Cemetery. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials for Evelyn may be left to the Evelyn Loucks Memorial Fund.
    She was born on May, 14, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Floyd W. and Pauline (Olden) Jewell. Evelyn lost her mother when she was 10 years old and was raised by her loving grandparents, Herbert and Caroline Jewell. She graduated from Wilson High School, Cherokee, Iowa, on May 21, 1936. She was certified and taught at a rural township school there before her marriage to Joseph L. Loucks on Dec. 31, 1940, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. As a married couple, they lived in Colorado, Iowa and Illinois. They moved to Geneseo in 1960. Dr. Loucks, a Geneseo veterinarian, died on Jan. 3, 1986.
    Locally, Evelyn worked at Walter’s Men’s Wear, Birds & Bees Children’s Shop, McKay’s Office Supplies, Rock Island Armory and Springfield Armory in Geneseo. She was a past member of the First Presbyterian Church and a 50-year member of the Grand Chapter of Iowa Order of the Eastern Star as well as attending the Geneseo OES Chapter. She enjoyed attending her sons’ athletic events, reading, knitting, crossword puzzles, her pets, and was an excellent seamstress. She helped Clyde Walters with alterations on costumes for theatre performances which he directed. She enjoyed time spent with family most of all.
    Survivors include her four sons, Joseph Jr. (Claudia), John (Margaret) and Richard (Marsha), all of Geneseo; and Thomas (Kelly) of Libertyville; two daughters, Sherri (Fred) Birmont of Coal Valley and Debra (Stephen) Wyffels of Geneseo; grandchildren, Chad (Iviz), Scott, Brad (Jen), Evyn, Quinn (Molly), Tyler, Daniel, Bridget and Connor Loucks; Michelle Birmont-Sabra, Matt Birmont, Alison (Steve) Zervos, Jonna (Doug) Rescho, and Emily and Jenni Wyffels; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Beverly Nord Mills of Paso Robles, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; her grandparents; parents; one brother, Richard; a step-brother, Craig Walters; and one great granddaughter, Olivia Zervos.
