  • Charles A. Pearson, 85, of East Moline, formerly of Geneseo, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis. Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 2 at Esterdahl Mortuary and Crematory Ltd., Moline. A visitation was held Sunday, Dec. 1 at the funeral home. Burial was in Rock Island Memorial Park where military honors were conducted by East Moline American Legion Post No. 227. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Geneseo.
    He was born on March 12, 1928, in Chicago, the son of Aaron and Ruth (Bergstrom) Pearson. He married Shirley Gates in April of 1949, in Seattle, Wash. He later married June Marie (Freeze) Strang on April 29, 1955, in Lancaster, Mo.
    He was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the V.F.W. having served as the Commander for the former Silvis V.F.W. Post No. 1933 and a current member of the Moline V.F.W. Post No. 2153. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Children’s Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich. He also was the Commander for Rock Island County Council and for District No. 8.
    Charles worked as a driver for the former Rock Island Lumber Company. He later worked as an electrician for the former Torrance Electric Company in Rock Island. In 1990, Charles retired after 30 years of service at Torrance as a hoistman.
    He was a member of First Baptist Church in Geneseo and belonged to the Thor Lodge No. 9 I.O.V. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and bowling. Above all, Charles loved spending time with his grandchildren
    Survivors include his wife, June Pearson of East Moline; children, Richard W. (Dalis) Strang of Panama; Susan M. (Ernest) Ballard of East Moline; Don (Rita S.) Strang of Rock Island; Dan (Patty) Strang of Rock Island; Sally A. (Roger) Green of Colona; Donald L. Pearson of Seattle, Wash.; and Linda Barr of Seattle; foster daughter, Darlene King of Albuquerque, N.M.; 20 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Harriet Gates; and brother, John Remmy.
