Dorothy L. Sette, 92, of Geneseo, died on Monday, Dec. 9, 2013, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care Unit, Geneseo. A funeral service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13 at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. The Rev. Arthur Bergren will officiate. Burial will follow in the National Cemetery, Rock Island. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Humane Society.
Dorothy was born on Aug. 10, 1921, in Geneseo, the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Hagelin) Kay. She was a 1939 graduate of Geneseo High School and attended Augustana College. Dorothy married Robert Sette on April 20, 1947, in Geneseo. He died in 1995. Dorothy started working in downtown Geneseo in 1941 and was a fixture of the downtown area for 41 years. She worked for many different companies including the Geneseo Telephone Company as an operator and the Geneseo Bakery. In 1976, Dorothy started working at Wards Drug Store which later became McClimon Pharmacy. She loved working with the customers who came in.
Dorothy was a member of First Lutheran Church, Geneseo. She loved spending time with her family and loved her dogs, Buffy 1, 2, and 3.
Survivors include one son, Steve (Carmen) Sette of Geneseo; two daughters, Diana (Steve) Mapes of Atkinson and Melissa L. Sette of Geneseo; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Mapes, Daniel Mapes, David Mapes, Eric Hansen, Brooke Rogowski, Brina Mauch and Asa Anderson; seven great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert.
