  • Joy Anne Smith, 63, of Geneseo, died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at her home after a courageous battle against ovarian cancer. She now has eternal life in her heavenly home in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded and there were no services. Memorials may be made to a memorial fund to be established in her name.

  • Joy Anne Smith, 63, of Geneseo, died peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at her home after a courageous battle against ovarian cancer.     Joy was born on July 10, 1950, in Chicago, and was adopted by Earl and Florence Owens of Colona. She married Timothy Smith on Dec. 22, 1985. Over the years, they owned and operated ice cream shops, diners and rental properties. In 1989, Joy and Tim purchased and remodeled a 19th century Victorian home in Geneseo.
    Joy enjoyed gardening, television, cooking, swimming, and spending time with her loved ones. She always made her guests feel special with her elegantly decorated home and table.
    Joy was a past member of the Geneseo Junior Woman’s Club and once served as president.
    Survivors include her husband, Tim Smith; sons, Jason of Rock Island and Zachary of Geneseo; in-laws, Bill and Charlotte Smith and family; brother-in-law, David Smith and family; sister-in-law, Charlene DeKezel and family; brother-in-law, Todd Smith and family; aunts, Darlene Baum and Lucille Owens; and cousins, Dick and Lisa Baum and Kathy Swanson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Florence Owens; and the family dog, Snickers, as well as other relatives and close friends.
