Press release from the Illinois State Police regarding extreme weather issues:
District 7 Numbers at the moment:
Since midnight we have handled 5 property damage crashes
33 motorist assist/pullouts
Henry County Highway department pulled trucks at 7 p.m. and coming back out at 6 a.m.
Midland Rd between Galva and Kewanee is closed, IDOT is bringing out
heavy equipment to open it. I-74 between Woodhull and Knoxville is the
most dangerous in District 7 at this time.
The National Weather Service is predicting near blizzard like conditions at
times with rapidly changing temperatures. The heavy snowfall, blowing snow
and dangerously cold temperatures are making for extremely hazardous travel.
The National Weather Service and Illinois State Police both advise to travel
only if an emergency and absolutely necessary. Motorist who choose to
travel and become stranded are not only putting their lives in danger, they
are putting additional strain on police and EMS resources.
When crashes occur during extreme weather conditions, the ISP encourages
motorists to exchange insurance and driver information to keep motorists
safe and the roads clear, unless medical attention is required. Motorists
can file crash reports at the nearest ISP District within 10 days.
