Geneseo aldermen recently approved purchasing land adjacent to Richmond Hill.
During an executive session following the Jan. 14 city council meeting, board members voted to purchase a six-acre tract for the cost of $100,000, subject to the approval of the agreement by the city's attorney.
The parcel is located north of the Stone Field baseball diamond between the Richmond Hill and Dilenbeck subdivisions.
"The action is consistent with the city vision of providing and enhancing services as well as providing opportunities for growth and development," said Geneseo mayor Linda Van Der Leest.
She said city officials recently learned of the land's availability. "Prior to this action, the property had been in bankruptcy and foreclosure."
At the Jan. 14 city council meeting, board members also:
• Approved an agreement with AT&T for the construction of a 150-foot monopole cell phone tower at the city's public works garage.
• Proclaimed January as Mentoring/Big Brothers-Big Sisters Month.
