  • Senior Expo offering wide variety of info, fun

  • The annual Senior Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the Geneseo Community Center.
    The expo will feature nearly 40 vendors exhibiting everything from information on senior housing to entertainment options.

  • The annual Senior Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, May 9 at the Geneseo Community Center.
    The expo will feature nearly 40 vendors exhibiting everything from information on senior housing to entertainment options.
    “The expo is an opportunity for people to receive a lot of information about various companies and organizations under one roof,” said Dee Evans, general manager of the Henry County Advertizer-Shopper and Geneseo Republic, which is co-sponsoring the event with Central Bank, Good Samaritan Village and Hammond-Henry Hospital.
    “A lot of vendors will have giveaways and prize drawings. In addition, those who attend will have the chance to win door prizes,” said Evans. “There will be items available to sample as well as items available for purchase.”
    The highlight of the Senior Expo will be a hot lunch buffet served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The buffet, prepared by Hammond-Henry Hospital, will feature main meat dishes as well as vegetables, salad, drinks and desserts.
    Special guest speakers will present programs starting at 9 a.m. The speaker schedule is as follows:
    9 a.m. — Geneseo Park District trainer Cody Lichthardt will discuss “Improving Balance.”
    9:30 a.m. — Geneseo police officers will discuss “Identity Theft and Fraud.”
    10 a.m. — A Henry and Stark County Health Department representative will present “Healthy Eating.”
    10:30 a.m. — Geneseo Alzheimer’s Support Group leader Marilyn Woelke will discuss “Forgetfulness: When Do I Worry?”
    Vendor booths will be open from 9 a.m. to noon.
    In addition, from 1 to 2 p.m., attendees can play bingo games for the chance to win prizes.
    Sam and Sandra Hodgett of Sheffield will provide big band music, with space available for couples who want to dance.
    Admission to the event is free, however there is a charge for lunch. Advance lunch tickets are $5 and are available at the Geneseo Republic, Cambridge Chronicle, Orion Gazette, Galva News, Kewanee Star Courier, Central Bank, Good Samaritan Village, and Hammond-Henry Hospital.
    Lunch tickets may be purchased at the door for $7.
