  • Charles L. Stephens, 76, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at his home. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Monday, June 23 at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. The Rev. Tim Doty officiated. A visitation for Chuck was held prior to services at the funeral home. Per his request, cremation rites were accorded following the funeral service. Private inurnment was held Tuesday, June 24 at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Geneseo or to the Geneseo Humane Society.
    Chuck was born on July 12, 1937, in Kewanee, the son of Lloyd E. and Gladys E. (Johnson) Stephens. He married Sherry L. Wickblom on Nov. 3, 1957, in Cambridge. Sherry survives him. He graduated from Orion High School, Black Hawk College Magna Cum Laude and attended Augustana College. He served in the Army Reserves from 1960 to 1966. He retired in 1992 from John Deere Harvester Works as an advanced engineering analyst.
    Chuck was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Geneseo, where he served as a deacon and an elder. Chuck also was a member of the Geneseo Grid Club and the Geneseo Moose. He was a lifelong supporter of the Illini, the Bears, the Cubs and the Green Machine.
    Survivors include his wife, Sherry; a daughter, Ann L. Stephens of Geneseo; a son, Scott L. (Tanya) Stephens of Geneseo; two grandchildren, Cam and Zak Stephens and a brother, Robert “Mike” (Nelda) Stephens of Andover.
