  • Eleven advance to AAU Junior Olympic Nationals

  • Eleven Geneseo track and field athletes, who are members of the Mississippi Valley Track Club in Bettendorf, Iowa, have advanced to the AAU Junior Olympic National Meet.

  • Eleven Geneseo track and field athletes, who are members of the Mississippi Valley Track Club in Bettendorf, Iowa, have advanced to the AAU Junior Olympic National Meet.
    The Geneseo contingent competed June 28-29 in Brooklyn Center, Minn. in the AAU Region 14 National Qualifier against teams from Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The Top 8 places advanced to the Junior Olympic meet.
    William Cosgrave, 13-year-old boys’ division, qualified in four events with an eighth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 1 minute and 2.79 seconds; fourth in the 100-m hurdles in 18.89; sixth in the 200-m hurdles in 33.84; and fifth in the javelin throw at 62-02.
    Colton Pischke, 13-year-old boys’ division, advanced in four events with a first-place finish and meet record in the 100-m hurdles with a time of 15.36. He also qualified in the 200-m hurdles in first place at 29.44; first in the triple jump at 34 1/4; and first in the 4x100-m 14-year-old relay in 3:46.05.
    Nathan Carroll, 14-year-old division, advanced to nationals in two events — the 4x800-m relay with a second-place finish in 9:59.53 and fifth in the 800-m run at 2:21.80. He also took 13th in the 400-m dash in 1:01.60 and 19th in the 200-m dash at 27.71.
    Reed Vanderheyden, 14-year-old boys’ division, qualified for nationals in four events. He took home first in the 800-m run in 2:11.82; first and a new meet record in the 100-m hurdles at 13.88; first and a new meet record in in the 200-m hurdles at 25.67; and first in the 4x400-m relay at 3:46.05.
    Ben Cosgrave, 15-16-year-old boys’ division, advanced with a fourth-place finish in the 400-m hurdles in 1:01.25 and triple jump in seventh place at 36 1/2. He also took 12th in the 100-m hurdles in 17.86.
    Andrew Pischke, 15-16-year-old boys’ division, qualified with a sixth-place finish in the 100-m hurdles in 16.22; eighth in the 400-m hurdles with a time of 1:04.39; and sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 37-0. He finished ninth in the long jump at 17-2 3/4.
    Josh Beard, 17-year-old boys’ division, advanced to nationals in the triple jump with a third-place finish and a mark of 42-4 3/4. He also finished 26th in the 100-m dash in 12.44 and 11th in the long jump at 18-8 1/4.
    Reece Bodeen, 14-year-old girls’ division, qualified with a first-place finish and new meet record in the 100-m hurdles in 15.57; first and a new meet record in the 200-m hurdles at 29.95; seventh in the 100-m dash at 13.25; and seventh in the 200-m dash at 27.69.
    Veronica Eilers, 14-year-old girls’ division, advanced with a sixth-place finish in the 800-m run at 2:42.04 and third in the 4x400-m relay in 4:32.87. She also placed 10th in the 400-m dash in 1:09.11.
    Page 2 of 2 - Rebekah Beard, 15-16-year-old girls’ division, qualified in the long jump in seventh place with a leap of 14-8 1/4 and eighth in the triple jump at 30-9. She also took 33rd in the 200-m dash in 30.09.
    Hanna Vanderheyden, 17-18-year-old girls’ division, advanced in the 100-m hurdles with a fourth-place finish in 15.82 and the 400-m hurdles in third place at 1:16.46.
    Geneseo’s 11 athletes will next participate in the AAU Junior Olympic Nationals July 28-Aug. 2 held at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa with athletes from all 50 states.
