Alice L. Hutchinson, 89, of Geneseo, died Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, at the Hammond-Henry Hospital Long-Term Care Unit, in Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9 at First United Methodist Church, in Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiated. Burial followed in Liberty Cemetery, in rural Atkinson. A visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to First United Methodist Church, the Geneseo Food Pantry or State Road Church.

Alice was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Wethersfield Township, rural Kewanee, the daughter of Carl and Verla (Werkheiser) Bates. She graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to Wilbur Hutchinson on April 14, 1946, in Kewanee. Wilbur died in 1993. Alice was a devoted farm wife, she and Wilbur farmed in rural Atkinson, and they operated Hutchinson Trucking for many years before moving to Geneseo in 1985. She was a very active and devoted member of First United Methodist Church, in Geneseo, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was an avid quilter and member of the Geneseo Community Quilters. Alice was an avid card player in three card groups, and belonged to sewing groups as well. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, and Alice had belonged to the State Road Church and the Burns Township Social Circle. She loved her family and spending time with all of them.

Survivors include her children, Diane McCann, of Moline; Darla (Mark) Anderson, of Geneseo; and Darrell (Doris) Hutchinson, of Atkinson; grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Bogner, Darren Hutchinson, Alison (Doug) Tomczak, Mike McCann, Adam Anderson, Aaron (Keely) Anderson, Ashley (Garrett) Mangan, Kurt Hutchinson and Tony Hutchinson; great-grandchildren, Addison, Hudson, Owen, Sadie, Zach and Matthew; sisters, Donna Nelson, of Geneseo; and Phyllis (Alvin) Hepner, of Kewanee; brother, Earl Bates, of Kewanee; and her sister-in-law, Carol Bates, of Galva. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; one son, Dennis Hutchinson, on Oct. 25, 2016; two brothers, Tom and Eddie; and two sisters, Lois Dienst and Doris Bickers.
