A JA Titan team from Geneseo High School placed second in the recent scholarship round of the Drs. David & Agnes Palmer Junior Achievement Titan Competition

Students from Davenport, DeWitt, Dubuque, Geneseo, Mediapolis, Moline, Princeton and West Liberty went head-to-head in the scholarship round.

Each team included four students and one business mentor (an adult community volunteer). Geneseo team members are: Bryan Dellett, Caitlin Gilmore, Kaitlyn McKeag and Alex Sottos. The team’s mentor is Brett Decker, of Central Bank. The GHS team is sponsored by Gold Star FS, Remington Seeds and Wells Fargo.

JA Titan is an interactive online business simulation that offers a way for students to learn what it takes to compete in the marketplace and to run a successful business.

During the one-day competition, each team of students are on a management team of a virtual company and need to make critical decisions about the business in order to make a profit in a very competitive industry.

Students feel the pressure of making key decisions that will determine the success or failure of their business. Such decisions include: setting the product price, how many items to produce, how much to spend on marketing, determine whether to expand production through capital investment, and how much money to spend on research and development.

As second-place finishers, each member of the Geneseo team will receive a $750 scholarship

Prior to the Scholarship Round, eight Qualifying Rounds took place throughout October and November.
