Darlene K. VanOpdorp, 83, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at Hillcrest Home, in Geneseo. A memorial service celebrating her life was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at First United Methodist Church, in Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date at North Cemetery, in Geneseo. A visitation was one hour prior (10 a.m. to 11 a.m.) to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Darlene VanOpdorp Memorial Fund. Cremation rites have been accorded by Vandemore Funeral Homes & Crematory, in Geneseo, who is assisting the family with arrangements.

Darlene was born Aug. 17, 1933, in Colona, the daughter of Norman and Helen (Jacobson) Reese. She graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Donald VanOpdorp on Nov. 3, 1951, in Geneseo. Darlene was the office manager/medical secretary for Dr. E.D. Lardner, in Moline, for more than 27 years, from which she retired.

Darlene was a member of First United Methodist Church, in Geneseo. Darlene and Don loved ballroom dancing. She enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas, and spending summers at their lake home in Michigan. Darlene loved her family and cooking for them. She treasured the time spent with her family, especially with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; daughter, Gloria (Stan) Redell, of Geneseo; sons, Greg (Brenda) VanOpdorp, of Geneseo; and Steve (Rhonda) VanOpdorp, of Silvis; grandchildren: Scott (Holly) VanOpdorp, Adam (fiancée Michelle Martin) VanOpdorp, Matt (Samantha) VanOpdorp, Michelle VanOpdorp, Stanley Jr. (Molly) Redell, Jason (fiancée Becky Ferry) Redell, Justin (Katie) Redell and Holly (Nick) Yates; 11 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Nicholson, of Hillsdale. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Norma; and her great-grandson, Sean.
