William “Bill” M. Bowling, 77, of Geneseo, died Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at UnityPoint Health, in Rock Island. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7 at the UAW Local 865 - Richard M. Shoemaker UAW Hall, in East Moline, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. at the UAW Hall. Memorials may be made to the Members’ Assistance Committee of Local 865. Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary Ltd., in East Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bill was born Nov. 28, 1939, in Hyden, Ky., the son of George and Malvery (Seizemore) Bowling. He married Debbie Hill on Nov. 8, 1975, in St. David., Ill.

Bill was elected president of UAW Local 1309 at the age of 29. He was appointed Director of Labor for the State of Illinois in 1977. Bill served as the recording secretary of the National Association of Governmental Labor Officials (NAGLO) from 1979 to 1981. In August of 1986, he was appointed as a UAW International Representative for Region 4, where he continued to serve local unions until his retirement in 2000.

Bill leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Debbie; sons, William Robert (Amanda) Bowling and Jeff (Kelly) Bowling, daughters, Tammy (Bill) McCaw, Pam (John) Danner, Evelyn Case and Jennifer Scholten; grandchildren, Johnna, Bo, Joe, Sarah, Kyle, Zari, RyLee, Regan, Ellarie, Kayla, Emma, Alice, Emma and Alli; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, his parents, one brother and two sisters.
