Patricia I. “Patti” Kastor, 45, of Downs, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana. A celebration of life service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 at the Tri-Valley Middle School, in Downs. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, in Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a scholarship fund to be established in Patti’s memory.

Patti was born March 7, 1971, in Woodstock, the daughter of Gene and Pat “Micki” Morrison Bolda. She married Brad D. Kastor, her high school sweetheart and best friend, on May 30, 1992, in Geneseo. Together, they had two daughters, Amanda (Colin) Ferguson, of Bloomington, and KaiNani “Kai” Kastor, at home.

Patti was raised in Crystal Lake, Lake in The Hills and Geneseo and, after her marriage to Brad, lived in Moline, Hamilton, Sycamore, Springfield and Normal prior to moving to Downs.

She graduated from J.D. Darnall High School, in Geneseo, and received degrees from Black Hawk College and Northern Illinois University and her teaching certificate from Illinois State University. She taught one year at Pontiac Junior High before beginning her 12-year career teaching at Tri-Valley Middle School, in Downs. She also became an agent for Travelmation LLC, planning and booking Disney vacations.

She loved spending time with her family, reading and traveling, especially to Disney World, and being the world’s No. 1 Disney fan. She was a strong fan of the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed watching the Chicago Bears. She cared greatly for her students and tried to help them as much as she could, maintaining contact with many of them long after they had graduated.

Patti had a great impact on many lives and is greatly loved. We already miss her tremendously, and she will always be in our thoughts and hearts.

Patti is survived by her husband, Brad, of Downs; daughters, Amanda (Colin) Ferguson and Kai Kastor; her parents, Gene and Pat Bolda, of Bloomington; one sister, Valerie (Marshall) Plumley, of Geneseo; mother-in-law, Kristie (Bob) Mitchell, of Omaha, Neb.; father-in-law, Neil Kastor, of Akron, Ohio; three uncles; one aunt; two brothers-in-law; three nephews; and one niece. She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
