The 45th-annual Orion Fall Festival opens at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1 in Orion’s historic Central Park and runs through 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3.

Weekend activities include carnival rides, a food tent, arts and crafts, street dances, an ice cream social, root beer float party, car show, pork chop dinner, free entertainment, soap box derby, community band performance and events for kids.

The annual pie auction which raised nearly $25,000 in 2016 kicks off the festival at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 1. Auctioneer Albert Stenzel will lead the sale. Pie judging begins at the park band shell at 5:30 p.m.

The Charger 10-mile and 5K runs start at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at the Rock Island Conservation Club, 2421 Big Island Road, in Milan. Other morning activities include the Orion Lions Club Bike/Hike4Sight event, a candy hunt, monkey bridge, and tractor pull for the kids. A rummage sale will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church beginning at 9 a.m.

The high school “Overtime Party” will start at 9:30 p.m. at the Orion United Methodist Activity Center.

“Lions Clubs — A Century of Service” will be the theme of the Fall Festival Parade. The parade kicks off at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. Jim DeBaillie, long-time community volunteer, will serve as grand marshal.

The “Miss Main Street Orion” pageant will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2in Central Park.

A pork chop dinner begins at 5 p.m. Evening entertainment fashioned after the popular TV shows “Minute to Win It” and “Deal or No Deal” start at 5 p.m. with registration for kids beginning at 4:30 p.m.

A Middle School Party will be held from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Orion United Methodist Church Activity Center.

The Orion Lions Club annual pancake, sausage, biscuit and gravy breakfast starts at 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 3 followed by a nondenominational church service at the park band shell at 8 a.m. featuring gospel artists “The Chosen Ones.”

The annual car show and Cub Scout soap box derby start at noon on Sunday, Sept. 3 with “Orion’s Got Talent” at 1:30 p.m. in the park band shell.

The Orion Community Band performs at 4:15 p.m. and the festival raffle drawing will be held at 5 p.m. Walking tacos and dessert will be served at the Orion United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m. followed by Comedy Sportz featuring “Guys with Ties.”

Street dances, sand volleyball and a bags tournament will be held throughout the weekend. The food tent, carnival rides and arts and crafts tents are open for the duration of the festival.
