Larry V. Rahmus, 70, of Geneseo, passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, in the UnityPoint-Trinity emergency room, in Rock Island. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Deacon Larry Honzel officiated. Burial followed at the Edford Township Cemetery. A visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Larry Rahmus Memorial Fund.

Larry was born Dec. 19, 1946, in Geneseo, the son of Vernon and Lottie (McFadden) Rahmus. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1965 and studied law enforcement at Black Hawk College, graduating in 1970. Larry was united in marriage to Sherry Bobo on July 5, 1969, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Geneseo. Larry was a lifetime farmer in rural Geneseo, and it was his love and passion. He was a 4-H leader for several years, and a past president of the QC Arabian Horse Club. Larry also was a commander of the Henry County Mounted Search and Rescue. He will be remembered for his kind heart and love for people; Larry never met a stranger.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sherry; son, Mike (Jennifer) Rahmus, of Geneseo; daughter, Jennifer (Mark) Richardson, of Aledo; and daughter-in-law, Kathy (Bill) Atcheson, of Waukee, Iowa. His grandchildren are: Brian (Sawyer) Rahmus; Chelsea Rahmus; Austin (Samantha) Dekezel; Blake, Ashlyn and Makenna Rahmus; Ethan Atcheson; Tom Richardson; and Rachel Dawson. His great-grandchildren are: Remington, Hayden and Adalynn Rahmus; Breelyn Richardson; Landon Eisentrager; Juleah and Elana Dawson; and Lilah Carey. His sisters are Genevieve (Glenn) Anderson, of Geneseo, and Mary Jo (Greg) Henry, of Osco. Larry also is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Lottie; his son, Jason “Jake” Rahmus; and son-in-law, Darren Dekezel.
