Noe “Bud” DeRycke, 96, of Sheffield, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at the LaSalle Veterans’ Home, in LaSalle. A funeral mass celebrating Bud’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Sheffield. The Rev. Mark Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, in Sheffield, where military honors will be accorded by the Mineral American Legion Post. A visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. (two hours prior to the service) at the church. Memorials may be left to St. Patrick Catholic Church or the Sheffield-Alba Rescue Squad. Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Atkinson, is in charge of arrangements.

Bud was born April 12, 1921, in Sheffield, the son of Frank and Effie (DeMetziner) DeRycke. He attended Sheffield High School and enlisted in the U.S.Army Air Corps. He served in the 13th Air Force Division in New Guinea and the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Berneice E. Christian on Aug. 17, 1946, in Sheffield. She preceded him in death on Jan. 23, 2014. Bud was a lifetime farmer in the Sheffield, Buda and Mineral areas.

Bud was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, in Sheffield. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Mineral American Legion Post, where he was a past commander. He was active in the Flemish American Club, the Geneseo Moose Lodge, and the Mineral Bolders Club. Bud was an avid rolle bolle player. He was proud to be an attendee of the Honor Flight.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda (Stan) Lyon, of Sheffield, and Laura (Doug) Jury, of Sparland; and his son, John (Cheryl) DeRycke, of Prophetstown. Bud had nine grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. His surviving brother is Lawrence “Larry” DeRycke, of Sheffield. He was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Lutz; and his great-grandson, Noah DeRycke.
