Margaret R. “Maggie” Murphy, 50, of Atkinson, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, in Peoria. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Deacon Harley Chaffee will officiate. A visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Maggie was born Nov. 20, 1966, in San Jose, Calif., the daughter of Michael A. and Kathleen V. (Brennan) Murphy. Maggie never worked outside her home, but was a wonderful caregiver for her family and friends. She loved the ocean and sunning on the beach and swimming in her pool. Maggie was a true animal lover, particularly loving horses and dogs. She will remembered by her wonderful laugh and the beautiful wit she possessed. Maggie attended St. Malachy Catholic Church.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Jerry Abell, of Atkinson; daughter, Courtney (Matt Parsons) Murphy, of Atkinson; and granddaughter, Faith Murphy; brother, Brian (Nancy) Murphy, of Great Falls, Mont.; and sisters Rosemary (Reno Ford) Stotts, of Geneseo; and Delia (Gary) Walker, of Discovery Bay, Calif. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Kathleen; brothers, Michael and Timothy; and her niece, Jessica Dodd.
