Jeffery Paul Halligan, 61, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his wife and loving family. A celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Heritage Church, in Rock Island. Inurnment will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. A visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Jeffery Halligan Memorial Fund. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Jeff was born Feb. 16, 1956, in Geneseo, the son of George and Pearl (Hinckle) Halligan. He graduated from Geneseo High School in 1974. Jeff married Pamela K. DeSplinter on July 20, 1974, in Geneseo. He was employed with John Deere Harvester Works, and then was a car salesman for Turpin Motors and Sexton Ford. Jeff joined the United States Army, starting his military career in April of 1982, and served his country during Desert Storm and in Korea on the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). In 1992, Jeff suffered a stroke and was honorably/medically discharged from his service. Jeff enjoyed swimming and wood working, which included building and refinishing furniture. He also enjoyed riding his bike around town in his spare time. Most of all, Jeff loved and was devoted to his family, helping and supporting them in any way he could. Jeff was a member of the VFW and attended Heritage Church, in Rock Island.

Survivors include his wife, Pam; his daughters, Jennifer Radue and Jessica (Corey) Disterhoff, of Baxter, Iowa; and son, Jeffery (Christina) Halligan II, of Colorado Springs, Colo. His grandchildren are: Alexandria, Ethan, Quentin, Anthony, Elijah, Uriah, Fisher, Mackenzie, Hadessah, Samuel, Maria and Silas. He also is survived by his sisters, Colleen DeSpain, of Geneseo; Deanna Burlingame, of Silvis; Judy (Wes) Naftzger, of Albany; Carol (Bill) Halligan, of Iowa City, Iowa; Becky (Clyde) Porter, of Gurnee; and Kathy (Joe) Saylor, of Indiana; and his brother, Joe (Diane) Halligan, of East Moline. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pearl; brother, Charles Halligan; and two sisters, Marilyn Griffin and Sharon Thompson.
