Wayne Q. Strafford, 82, of Geneseo, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, at UnityPoint Trinity, in Rock Island. A graveside funeral service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26 at the Rock Island National Cemetery. The Rev. Robert Fitts officiated. A visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the American Heart Association.

Wayne was born Sept. 18, 1935, in Moline, the son of Archie and Lillian (Forbes) Strafford. He graduated from Moline High School with the Class of 1953. Wayne married Sharon G. Craig on May 19, 1962, at Bethel Church, in Moline. Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran and served his country in Germany. During his earlier years, Wayne worked in construction. Wayne worked as a salesman at Lamco Slings & Rigging, in Moline, for 20 years before working at Allquip, in Geneseo. He retired in 2001. Wayne was a former board member of the City of Geneseo Street Department and a proud member of the NRA. He coached girls’ softball and continued to follow their statistics after coaching. Wayne loved yard work, gardening, fishing, hunting, and watching his favorite Chicago sports teams, the Cubs and Bears.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; and his daughter, Amy (Marty) Hanson, of Colona; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Lillian; his brother, Lauren; and one brother in infancy.
