Mack E. Gardner, 82, of Geneseo, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, at UnityPoint Health - Trinity Rock Island. A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at St. Malachy Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Pakula will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, in Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. A visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Memorials may be left to the Mack Gardner Memorial Fund.

Mack was born March 5, 1935, in Scotland, Ark., the son of Samuel and Marjorie (Wade) Gardner. He married Bernadine C. Oberstar on April 21, 1956, in Seattle, Wash. Mack worked as the superintendent of the FAB Division at the former Illini Beef, in Joslin, and then as the superintendent for Superior Pack, in Dixon, Calif. He retired in 1989. Mack was a member of the Knights of Columbus to the 4th Degree, and a member of the Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and gardening. Mack is a veteran of the United States Navy.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Bernadine; and his sons, Glenn (Dianne) Gardner, of Everett, Wash.; Frank (Cheryl) Gardner, of Zionsville, Ind.; and Jerry (Evie) Gardner, of Geneseo. His seven grandchildren are: Heidi, Korey, Jeremy, Ben, Logan, Cole and Paige. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Archer and Jude; as well as brothers Bill Gardner, of Arkansas; and Wade Gardner, of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Marjorie; two brothers and two sisters.
