Dorothy M. Cessna, 88, of Mineral, died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at OSF St. Luke’s Medical Center, in Kewanee. A funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Annawan. Fr. Timothy Savage officiated. Burial followed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A visitation was from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Atkinson. A rosary was recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorials my be left to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Dorothy was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Mineral, the daughter of Oscar and Elsie (VanVooren) Croegaert. After Dorothy graduated from Mineral High School, she completed three years of nurses’ training and continued to work as a homemaker. Dorothy married John F. Cessna on March 31, 1951, in Urbana. John preceded her in death in 2006. She was a longtime and active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society and a Sunday school teacher. Dorothy also was active in Cursillo.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Michael (Mary Jo) Cessna, of Sycamore; James (Karen) Cessna, of Monroe, Wis.; Robert (Sue) Cessna, of Spring Valley; Thomas (Diane) Cessna, of Bloomington; and Philip (Diane) Cessna, of O’Fallon, Mo.; and her daughters, Mary (Steve) Van Poucke, of Marengo; Patricia (Tim) Sullivan, of Rushville; Margaret (Earl) Simon, of Hamilton; and daughter-in-law, Diane Cessna, of Geneseo. She is survived by her 22 grandchildren and her 22 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Elsie; her husband, John Cessna; son, John Cessna Jr.; sisters, Ruth Jensen and Arlene Davis; and by her brother, Donald Croegaert.
