Phyllis A. Sand, 86, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Long Term Care, in Geneseo. A funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. The Rev. Bruce Bergthold officiated. Burial followed at Oakwood Cemetery, in Geneseo. A visitation was one hour prior to the funeral (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Geneseo Public Library or to the Henry County Humane Society.

Phyllis Joan Adams was born Nov. 9, 1930, in Kirksville, Mo., the daughter of Dr. John and Phyllis Gillette Adams. The family moved to Geneseo shortly thereafter. Phyllis Joan graduated from Geneseo High School and the Moline Institute of Commerce. Following her schooling, Phyllis worked as a legal secretary for Robert H. White. Phyllis was united in marriage to Dale Sand on Dec. 13, 1952. She and Dale farmed south of Geneseo briefly before moving to their home north of town where they continued to farm for more than 30 years before their retirement. Phyllis and Dale loved to dance, laugh, go for car rides, and eat good food. Phyllis was an avid reader. She was a member of Chapter DN of PEO, Grace United Methodist Church, Polka Club of America, and Women of the Moose.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Robert Doescher; her sisters-in-law, Willicene (Cliff) Pobanz and Elaine (Ken) Hamiliton; along with 10 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; two sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; and one nephew.
