Raymond L. Gentry, 83, of Atkinson, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, in Geneseo. A memorial visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 18 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Atkinson. Memorials may be left to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.

Raymond L. Gentry, 83, of Atkinson, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, in Geneseo. Ray was born May 9, 1934, in Geneseo, the son of Ralph and Ruth (DeWolf) Gentry. He graduated from Atkinson High School. Ray married Kenlyn E. Verschoore on Nov. 6, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa. Ray was a horse trainer for 45 years and also judged the American Quarter Horse division at horse shows for 33 years. Ray was a very talented man. He enjoyed doing oil paintings. Ray’s true love was horses. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Kenlyn; son, Rock (Val) Gentry, of Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Cheryl (Mike) Lewsander, of Port Byron; and his brothers, Winfred (Ruth) Gentry, of Atkinson; Jack (Elaine) Gentry, of Moline; Roy (Vanda) Gentry, of Viola; Keith (Sandy) Gentry, of Chatham; Jim (Audrey) Gentry, of Atkinson; and Rich (Pat) Gentry, of Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ruth; sister, Connie Edwards; and two grandchildren.
