Art classes for students will be offered at Smith Studio and Gallery, in downtown Geneseo.

On Saturday, Feb. 3 students in first, second and third grades are invited to participate in the “Build a Puppet” class. The class will meet from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for three consecutive weeks.

Students will learn how to make a paper mache style of puppet that was first created in Chicago around 1940.

Starting Tuesday, Feb. 6, fourth, fifth and sixth graders can participate in a three-week “Totem Sculpture” class. The class will be offered from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The class will focus on a personal emblem created as a sculpture. Each participant will be guided through the design stage of discovery. The result will be a “stick totem” that becomes an image of what is important to the artist and who they are.

Both classes are offered to the public through the coordinated efforts of the Geneseo Park District and the Smith Studio and Gallery.

To enroll, contact Smith Studio at 945-5428 or the Geneseo Community Center at 944-5695.
