Paul Joseph Lams Jr., “Joey” to family and friends, 27, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018 at his home from an undiagnosed heart condition following a month of flu-like symptoms and pneumonia. A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 at First United Methodist Church, in Geneseo. A visitation was from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the church prior to the service. The Rev. Dr. Chris Ritter officiated. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made for a Paul J. Lams Jr. Trade School Scholarship Fund to be set up by his family. Stackhouse-Moore Funeral & Cremation Services, in Geneseo, is assisting the family.

Paul “Joey” Lams Jr. was born Sept. 14, 1990, in Moline, the son of Paul J. Lams Sr. and Scarlet (Ortiz) Lams. He graduated with honors from Sherrard High School in 2009 and from Black Hawk College, in Moline, in 2013. Paul married Sarah Lawson on July 29, 2017, in Geneseo. She survives.

Paul had worked as a tooling and quality engineer for Jewell Group. He also owned and operated his own pallet business called Paul’s Pallet Pile.

Paul had a very strong work ethic and dearly loved his wife. He also had a love for all animals, especially his dog, Ruger, their cats, and his nephew dog, Rusty. He also had formed a special bond with Sarah’s grandfather who recently passed away.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah; father, Paul J. Lams Sr., of Milan, and his friend, Vickie; his mother, Scarlet Lams, of Milan; brother, James Lams, of Milan; sister, Jennifer Warfel, of Crystal Lake; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bernie and Nancy Lawson, of Geneseo; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Aaron and Janelle Lawson, of Rock Island; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kendra and Hector Escobedo, of Glendora, Calif.; brother-in-law, Ethan Lawson, of Breckenridge, Colo.; sister-in-law, Rachel Lawson, of Geneseo; two nieces; two nephews; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
