Elsie M. Marchand, 94, of Hooppole, died Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Genesis Senior Living, in Aledo. A funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Annawan. Fr. S. Stephen Engelbrecht will officiate. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, in Annawan. A visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 23 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Atkinson, where a rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Annawan.

Elsie was born May 9, 1923, in Annawan, the daughter of Camiel and Marie (Paepe) Vercauteren. She completed 8th grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School, in Annawan. Elsie was united in marriage to Robert Marchand on Sept. 28, 1946. Robert preceded her in death on Aug. 21, 1971. Elsie assisted her husband with farming and the operation of their dairy herd cows in rural Hooppole for many years. She was a life-long member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Annawan, where she served on the Altar & Rosary Society. Elsie enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, quilting, and baking cookies and pies. There was always dessert in the house! Most of all, she loved her grandchildren and supported them by attending their sporting events. Elsie was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, James (Dolly) Marchand, of Durant, Iowa; and Tony Marchand, of Morton; daughters, Linda (Terry) Heller, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Patricia (Bob) Puleo, of Warrenton, Mo.; Pamela (John) Krantz, of Reynolds; and Terri (Stan) Dale, of Redlands, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Camiel and Marie; husband, Robert; daughter, Debra Marchand; and a brother, Albert.
