Geneseo residents may have noticed something missing from their recent utility bill — a return envelope.

The city is no longer including return envelopes with monthly bills.

“Of the 3,000 we were sending out, we were getting very few sent back,” said city administrator Lisa Kotter.

Instead, a number of customers opt to either pay online or pay at the city hall walk-up window.

As a cost savings measure, the return envelop will no longer be mailed. Those wishing to pay their bill by mail will have to supply their own envelope.

For many years, no envelopes were sent with the bills, as the bills themselves were mailed on small postcards. In 2014, the city switched to mailing the utility bills in traditional envelopes and included a return envelope.
