Scholastic awards were presented to Annawan Junior High School eighth graders during their promotion ceremony.

Students earning departmental awards included: Riley DeMay (band), Samantha Lyon (band), Allyson Celus (chorus), Leah Park (chorus, social studies and math), Caitlyn Baele (science) and Sophia Roldan (language arts).

Students earning high honor roll recognition for maintaining a 4.6 grade-point average and being on the high honor roll for at least three quarters and on the honor roll for at least one quarter include: Caitlyn Baele, Joseph Carpenter, Allyson Celus, Jaysen Heitzler, Grace Lindsey and Leah Park.

Annawan students earning President’s Award for Academic Excellence include: Caitlyn Baele, Joseph Carpenter, Allyson Celus, Jaysen Heitzler, Grace Lindsey and Leah Park. The award is presented to students who have a minimum of an A- average for all three years of junior high.

Leah Park received the Illinois Elementary School Association Scholar Attitude Award, sponsored by State Farm Insurance. The award honors a student who excels academically and who participates in school and community activities. The student must have a minimum of a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Only 15 students are selected statewide.

Leah Park and Xander Bremer received the Good Citizen Award from the Geneseo Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. To be eligible, students had to write an essay demonstrating honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism.

Caitlyn Baele and Jaysen Heitzler received the American Legion Citizenship Award. The award is presented to a male and female student each who possess the qualities of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service.
