Roger H. Struss, 93, of Silvis, formerly of Geneseo, died Sunday, May 27, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4 at Concordia Lutheran Church, in Geneseo. The Rev. Stephen Mueller will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. A visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at Vandemore Funeral Home & Crematory, in Geneseo. Memorials may be directed to Concordia Lutheran Church.

Roger was born Nov. 7, 1924, in Barstow, the son of Henry and Anna (Reiling) Struss. He graduated from United Township High School. Roger married Joanne B. Scheel on Oct. 12, 1996, at Concordia Lutheran Church. He worked as a lineman for Geneseo Telephone Company for many years and retired in 1994. Roger was a long-time dedicated member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he had served as president of the Site Council for several years, and was later a member of the Geneseo Senior Kitchen Band for 10 years. He also volunteered at UnityPoint Hospice.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joanne; step-daughters, Carol (Gerry) Chretien, of East Moline; and Susan (Jerry) Lee, of Colona; step-son-in-law, David Carrithers, of Williamsburg, Va.; eight step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. Roger also is survived by his sister-in-law, Joann Struss, of Silvis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna; a step-daughter, Nancy Carrithers; a step great-great-granddaughter, Ryleigh; two brothers, Rolland and Norm Struss; and two sisters, Marjorie and Lucille.
