Robert “Bob” Victor Abshire, 94, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, in Sugar Land, Texas. His wife of 70 years, Lucille, and daughter, Susan, were with him at his time of passing.

He was born Sept. 19, 1923, in Mishawaka, Ind, the son of Leslie and Golda Abshire.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy for three years on the destroyer USS Hudson in the Pacific Theatre. Amongst other places, the Hudson saw action at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, receiving nine Battle Stars and one Navy Unit Commendation for World War II service.

Bob and Lucille Pudil were married on June 10, 1948. They lived in Swisher, Iowa, for 10 years, then moved to Geneseo. Bob was active in the Geneseo Moose Lodge No. 990, served on their Ritual Team, and was a past Governor. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad for 31 years and then five years with the Natural Gas Pipeline Company. After retirement, and several years spent as “Winter Texans,” they moved permanently to Alamo, Texas. In 2015, Bob and Lucy moved to Sugar Land to be near their daughter, Susan.

Always a creative, handy man, Bob learned the art of woodworking with a scroll saw after his retirement. He loved nothing more than to spend hours in his shop creating beautiful pieces of art that he would sometimes sell, but mostly loved to gift to family and friends. He was quick with a smile and loved to joke. He was a wonderful husband, dad and Grampy. Words cannot express how much this sweet, loving man will be missed by his family and many friends. He will always be remembered with love.

Bob is survived by his wife, Lucille; daughter Susan (Doug) Green, of Sugar Land, Texas; son Bruce (Diane Bungartz), of Chetek, Wis.; and granddaughter Devon Green (Eric Poulos), of Chicago; his brother Richard (Mary Ann), of St. Paul, Minn.; sister-in-law Lucille “Lu” (Jack) Abshire, of Sun City West, Ariz.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Golda Abshire; his brothers William and Jack; and sisters Jean Ann Halversen and Betty Delaney.
