Ilse (Steurer) Boehle, 74, of Colona, loving wife, mother, and sister, joined Jesus, the saints, and angels on Monday Oct. 1, 2018. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family after cancer took her.

A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at St. Patrick’s Church in Colona. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 at Schroder Mortuary in Colona, with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. Memorials in Ilse’s name may be made to Covenant House and Leiomyosarcoma Support and Direct Research Foundation.

Ilse was born in Celle, Germany on Feb. 14, 1944, to Raimund and Magdalena Steurer. She immigrated with her family in 1952, settling in Peoria, and attended Academy of Our Lady.

She married Paul Boehle of Henry, on Feb. 3, 1968; recently they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. Ilse’s vocation was as a stay-at-home mom; she and Paul were blessed with five children with off-kilter senses of humor, which she tolerated with grace, dignity, and the occasional eye roll. Later, as an empty nester, she was a homemaker for the Henry County Health Department.

Ilse was a parishioner at St. Patrick’s Church in Colona, keeping them well-stocked with baked goods for parish events. She loved gardening, especially roses. Ilse was a member of the Moline Conservation Club, an avid square dancer, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Paul, children Theresa (Wayne) Peterson of Atkinson, Christina (Brian Fuller) Boehle of Boise, Idaho, Karen (Jeff) Boehle-Johnson of Normal, Monica (Scott) Boehle-Altergott of South Elgin, John (Kerri) Boehle of Moline, sister Marianne (Robert) Reading of Peoria, brother Raymond (Sharon) Steurer of Sussex, Wis., eleven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
