Geneseo High School’s music department is building a legacy in the state of Illinois. The department recently was named state runner-up in the Class A IHSA music sweepstakes contest.

Atkinson Elementary School — one of the last remaining remnants of the former Atkinson School District — could be in its final days. Due to low enrollment numbers, it’s unlikely the school will have a kindergarten class this year.

Lauren Woodworth has been named valedictorian of the Geneseo High School Class of 2008 and Laura Peterson has been named salutatorian. Both women will speak at Geneseo’s graduation ceremony.

Geneseo High School senior Susan Riewerts recently converted her two years of work experience in the floral department at HyVee in Silvis into a state championship. Riewerts was named the FFA state floriculture award winner on April 5. She will be honored at the Illinois FFA  State Convention in June.
