The 2010-11 school year in Geneseo started Aug. 17 with several new faces. Thirteen new educators have joined the district.

The Geneseo High School junior class is selling Green Machine T-shirts. The T-shirts are available in youth and adult sizes and may be ordered by contacting class sponsor LaJean Breedlove at (309) 945-0323. The shirts also will be sold at back-to-school night Aug. 16 at all district schools and at the Green-and-White football scrimmage game on Aug. 20.
Geneseo’s J.D. Darnall Class of 1990 will have its 20-year reunion. A casual get-together, beginning at 7 p.m. Aug. 6, will be at Barney’s Korner Bar & Grill. Other events include a golf outing in the morning of Aug. 7, and a dinner-dance on Aug. 7 at the Geneseo Country Club, with a social hour at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. For more information or reservations, contact Melanie (Fogarty) Henderson at (309) 944-5550.
Six Geneseo teachers, two from the high school and four from Northside Elementary, will retire at the end of the 2009-10 school year.
In a high-school first, Geneseo seniors Carlisle Evans-Peck and Chad Ford have been named co-valedictorians of the Class of 2010. The pair ended their high school careers with identical grade-point averages.
The Geneseo High School music department’s winning ways have continued. The department recently placed third in the state’s Class A IHSA music sweepstakes contest.
A new four-year contract has been approved by the Geneseo Board of Education and the teachers’ union, the Geneseo Education Association (GEA).
