Geneseo's West Cathcart dominated Grant Naylor of Mt. Zion on the way to a 14-1 major decision in the 189-lb. semifinals on Friday evening, Feb. 19, in Assembly Hall.
Cathcart will take a 40-1 record into semifinals, which start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, on the University of Illinois campus in Champaign.
The Maple Leaf notched a takedown about 30 seconds into the first period. Naylor managed an escape, but as the period ended Cathcart got a takedown and near fall for a 7-1 lead.
Cathcart and Naylor started the second period in the neutral position. The Maple Leaf got a takedown with 20 seconds to go, and a near fall gave him an 11-1 lead.
In the third period, Naylor elected to take the down position. Late in the period, Cathcart turned him for a near fall worth three points.
