Geneseo’s finance director, Teresa Savage, is preparing to wear two different hats for the city.
Savage was appointed city administrator by the Geneseo City Council during an executive session on May 11. In addition to her new post, Savage will retain the position of finance director.
“I’ll cover both jobs, for now,” she said. “We’re going to re-assess the accounting job description before any other decisions are made.”
Savage replaces previous city administrator Eric Wiederhold who resigned May 5 to accept a job in Glenwood.
Wiederhold joined the City of Geneseo in 2007, following the departure of then-city administrator Tim Long.
Savage has been employed by the city since August 1998. She was hired initially as the city’s
accountant, with the job title changing to finance director several years later.
Savage earned an accounting degree from East Texas State University and has lived in the Geneseo area for the past 25 years. “We came here when my husband was transfered to the Rock Island Arsenal,” she said.
As finance director, Savage has worked closely with the city’s previous administrators.
She said the administrator’s role in the city is to serve as a central communication hub for
employees, department heads, elected officials and the public.
“I feel like I can bring that to the city. I’m also as well acquainted with the city’s finances, which is important because we’re facing challenging times,” she said.
Savage said she has enjoyed working for the City of Geneseo. “It’s nice to get up and not be looking at a big commute. This job also allows you to see the things you’ve implemented. I can look around and know that the things I’ve done have benefited my neighbors and myself.”
