In Henry County, 66 percent of registered voters cast their ballots in the 2008 Presidential election. Some 24,975 ballots were cast in Henry County’s 52 precincts.

In the county, 53 percent of voters echoed the nation’s choice and selected Barack Obama. John McCain received 45 percent of the local vote with the remaining 2 percent voting for third-party presidential candidates.

Illinois — and Henry County — voters voted against holding a Constitutional Convention. Statewide, 68 percent of voters opposed the convention. In Henry County, 74 percent of voters opposed the issue.

Incumbent Democratic Senator Richard J. Durbin was re-elected, capturing 67 percent of the state vote. His Republican opponent earned 29 percent of the state vote. In Henry County, the men received 14,151 and 8,678 votes, respectively.

In the 14th Congressional District, Democrat Bill Foster received 57 percent of the state vote compared to the 43 percent his Republican opponent Jim Oberweis garnered. In Henry County, however, Oberweis received 6,582 votes to Foster’s 5,253.

Unopposed 17th Congressional District candidate Phil Hare was re-elected. He received 9,808 votes in Henry County.

In the State Senate 36th Legislative District Democrat Mike Jacobs received 59 percent of the district vote. Republican Michael Bertelsen received 41 percent of the vote. In Henry County, Jacobs received 4,723 votes to Bertelsen’s 4,396.

Republican State Senator Tim Bivins of the 45th Legislative District was re-elected with 63 percent of the district’s vote compared to Democrat Marty Mulcahey’s 37 percent. The candidates received 2,838 and 1,654 votes, respectively, in Henry County.

In the 71st Representative District, incumbent Democrat Mike Boland received 64 percent of the vote to Republican Lawrence Bruckner’s 36 percent. Boland received 5,276 votes in Henry County and Bruckner received 3,838.

Republican Donald Moffitt ran unopposed in the 74th Representative District. He received 8,685 votes in Henry County.

In the 19th Representative District, incumbent Republican candidate Jerry Mitchell won 63 percent of the vote to Democrat Kenneth Novak’s 37 percent. The men received 2,820 and 1,609 votes in Henry County, respectively.
