During the early hours of June 18, vandals  struck the Geneseo City Park and downtown.
Black spray paint was used to draw lines, letters and pictures of the male anatomy on buildings and monuments around town.

According to Geneseo Police Chief Tom Piotrowski, eleven reports of vandalism were handled by the police department.

Vandalism was discovered on the back of the granate World War II memorial in the city park as well as on the back of the Lincoln statue near the Geneseo Historical Museum.

Additional vandalism was found at the library, the VFW post home, the men’s public restroom on First Street and at various businesses downtown, including the Geneseo Republic. The bandshell and GEEE bell memorial in the city park were damaged as well.

Several of the decorative pigs from the public art “Parade of Pigs” project also were spray painted.

“Business owners and city staff have worked diligently to remove the graffiti,” said Piotrowki. “The Geneseo Police Department is seeking assistance and information regarding this situation.”

A reward will be offered to the individual who provides information leading to the arrest of those involved in this crime.
