Gary L. Carey, 66, formerly of Geneseo, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Leesburg Memorial Hospital, Leesburg, Fla. Memorial services cerebrating his life will be held  at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Vandemore Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Geneseo. A private burial will be held at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Per his request cremation rites have been accorded. Maxine V. Carlson, 85, of Geneseo, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital emergency room, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. David Esche will officiate. Amy R. Ford, 40, of Lexington, died Friday, July 23, 2010, at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. Garald W. “Gary” Haase, 60, of Geneseo, died Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Dr. John Wohlrabe will officiate. Bernice (Dupre) Johnson, 77, of East Moline, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport, Iowa. Adrienne N. Colegrove, 70, of Port Byron, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 17, at First United Methodist Church, Port Byron, with burial following in Fairfield Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation was held Friday, July 16, at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Frieda D. Couve, 90, of Geneseo, formerly of Atkinson, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Church of Peace, rural Kewanee. The Rev. Dan Craig will officiate. Burial will be in the Church of Peace Cemetery, Kewanee. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, July 23, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. Memorials may be made to the Church of Peace or Atkinson Rescue Squad.

She was born Aug. 9, 1919, in Kewanee, the daughter of Albert and Lydia (Mueller) Bailleu. She attended Kewanee schools. She married William A. Couve Aug. 17, 1940, in Kewanee. He died in 2002. She assisted her husband farming in rural Atkinson for many years. She was a member of Church of Peace, Lydia Circle, and Church Women’s Guild.
She loved working outdoors and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters and spouses, Linda and Jim Carton of Atkinson and Edith and Doug Block of Pearl City; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Hackwith, in 1999, and two brothers, Herman and Arnold.
 

Wanda D. Gillespie, 87, of Silvis, formerly of Geneseo, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. A memorial visitation will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Sullivan-Phillips Mortuary, Ltd., East Moline. The Rev. Keith Walder will officiate. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Battle Creek, Neb., at a later date.

Esther A. Nicol, 91, of Atkinson, died peacefully in her sleep Monday, July 19, 2010, at her home. A funeral Mass celebrating her life will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 23, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Atkinson. The Rev. Michael Monclova will officiate. Helen M. Snodgrass, 96, of Geneseo, died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Skilled Care Unit, Geneseo. Joanne W. Brush, 60, of Geneseo, died Friday, July 9, 2010, at Trinity Hospital, Rock Island. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Annabelle J. “Ann” Keag, 90, of Geneseo, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo, Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Vandemore Funeral Home Ltd., Geneseo. Wilmer R. “Zeke” Lain, 84, of Mineral, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at the home of his goddaughter, Dorothy DeMay, with whom he was residing. Muriel A. Pyle McRell, 91, formerly of Kewanee, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village, Geneseo. Betty J. Mielke, 85, of Orion, died July 4, 2010, at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 8, at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Church, Orion. Visitation was held Wednesday evening, July 7, at Kirk, Huggins and Esterdahl Funeral Home, Orion, where a rosary was also held. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Richard E. Fuller, 79, of Geneseo, died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Good Samaritan Society, Geneseo. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 2, at 6 p.m. at Geneseo First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Christopher Ritter officiating. A gathering of friends will be held following the memorial service, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Senior Citizens’ Room at the Geneseo Community Center. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his memory. Garland Funeral Home, Walnut, is in charge of arrangements.
