Laurence R. “Pete” Atwell, 87, of Atkinson, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Wednesday, May 9, at Atkinson Congregational Church. The Rev. Mike McBride and Pastor Brian Atwell officiated. Burial was in Grandview Cemetery, Atkinson, where military honors were conducted by the Atkinson American Legion Post. Nancy K. Buikema, 55, of Fulton, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, Iowa. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral home assisted the family with arrangements.

Arden J. DeReu, 93, of Geneseo, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. A funeral Mass celebrating his life was held Wednesday, May 9, at St. Malachy’s Catholic Church, Geneseo. The Rev. Michael Pakula officiated. Burial was in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Atkinson with military services at the graveside. A visitation was held Tuesday, May 8, at the Geneseo chapel of Stackhouse-Moore Funeral Services with a parish rosary. An additional visitation was held prior to services at the church. Joyce A. Eaves, 83, of Geneseo, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Geneseo Good Samaritan Village. Donna Elizabeth Gabriel, 88, of Geneseo, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo. LaRene I. Tomlinson, 82, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at her home. Per her request, her body has been donated for anatomical study to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois, Chicago. Spencer A. Troester Sr., 79, of Geneseo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center Illini Campus, Silvis. Per his request, cremation rites have been accorded. William R. “Sparkie” Armstrong, 81, of Moline, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline. Lois C. Detwiler, 89, of Monroe, Wis., died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Harbor House in Monroe. John Patrick “Pat” Melton, 49, died Saturday, April 14, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Denise DeCap Melton and daughter, Bridgette Joanna Melton, 18, of Lewisville, Texas; a brother, Phillip Melton of Dallas, Texas and numerous relatives. He was a proud native Texan. He was employed with Holt/Cat for 29 years as a heavy equipment inspector. Pat passed away after a long and courageous battle from a rare brain disease called Cortico Basal Degeneration. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Curepsp.org foundation in Pat’s honor.
