David C. VanDeWoestyne, 77, of Colona, died Feb. 24, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital, Geneseo. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 2, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Colona. Visitation was held Monday, March 1, at Schroder Mortuary, Colona, with a prayer services held at 6:45 p.m. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
He was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Atkinson, the son of Charles and Mary (VanWaes) VanDeWoestyne. He married LaWana Sutterer May 16, 1953, in East Moline. He retired in 1986 after 36 years of service from the Rock Island Arsenal as a pipe fitter. He was a veteran of the US Navy. He owned and operated Dave’s Apple Orchard in Colona for 15 years. He also enjoyed woodworking, playing cards and rolle bolle.
Survivors include his wife, LaWana; children and spouses, Mike and Patti VanDeWoestyne of East Moline, Brenda and Mike DeKezel of Colona, Vicki and Joe Francis of Burleson, Texas, Janice and Mark Giesler of Erie, Jack and Tony VanDeWoestyne of Amboy, Linda VanDeWoestyne of East Moline, Mark and Bobbie VanDeWoestyne of Manhattan, Kan., Andy and Kathy VanDeWoestyne of Durand, and Keith and Jamie VanDeWoestyne of Rosco; 21 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Dorothy VanDeWoestyne of Geneseo. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, five sisters, and one great-grandchild.
