Wilbur J. Moon, 87, of Annawan, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Skilled Care Unit, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating his life were held Thursday, Feb. 11, at Fairview United Methodist Church, rural Annawan. The Rev. Dan Wright officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, rural Annawan, where military rites were accorded by the Annawan VFW Post No. 7176 and the Hooppole American Legion. Visitation was held Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials may be made to the Fairview United Methodist Church, Annawan-Alba Rescue Squad, or a charity of the donor’s choice.

He was born July 31, 1922, in Annawan, the son of John and Hazel (Shaw) Moon. He was a 1941 graduate of Atkinson High School. He proudly served his country from 1942 to 1945 in the Navy during World War II, serving in the Southwest Pacific. He married Mildred E. “Peggy” Specht June 21, 1945, in Annawan. She died Aug. 24, 2009. He farmed for 50 years in rural Annawan retiring in 1994. He also drove a school bus for the Annawan Community School District for 40 years. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Hooppole American Legion, Annawan VFW Post No. 7176 and the La Chateau 40&8. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include three daughters and spouses, Cherie and Gale Witte of Annawan, Mary Jane and James Causemaker of Colona and Lora and Jim Hurt of Desoto; a son and spouse, John and Mary Moon on Aurora; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Janette Sanders of Maitland, Fla. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.
