Jean M. Deininger, 84, of Coal Valley, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20 at New Hope Baptist Church, Coal Valley. Burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 19 at Trimble Funeral and Cremation Center, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church.
The former Marvie Jean Snodgrass was born July 30, 1924, in Venis, Ark., the daughter of John E. and Lucille E. (Bolin) Snodgrass. She married William L. Deininger May 11, 1947, in Farmington, N. M. He died Jan. 24, 2004. She was an instructor for the American Red Cross for 22 years, retiring in 1989. She was an Emergency Medical Technician and volunteered with the Coal Valley Ambulance. She was a past president of the Horace Mann PTA, a member of the New Hope Baptist Church and Eastern Star, and served as an election judge in Rock Island County. She loved traveling, especially road trips, and gardening, especially peonies and roses, and enjoyed outdoor activities and volunteering.
Survivors include a daughter and spouse, Karma Deininger Feldman and Dr. Dean Feldman of North Barrington; two sons and spouses, Dewey C. and Barbara Gabbard of Albany, and John R. and Patricia J. Gabbard of Chesterfield, England; 23 grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Ginger Snodgrass of Springdale, Ark.; and Dean’s sisters to whom she was close, Jody Thorp of Aledo and Jill Feldman-Huber of Springfield. She was preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters and one grandchild.
