H. Wayne “Andy” Anderson, 86, of Geneseo, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo. Funeral services celebrating his life were held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors were accorded by Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Geneseo Youth Baseball Association.
He was born Dec. 31, 1922, in Dongola, the son of Homer and Addie (Vincent) Anderson. He proudly served his country in the Air Force during World War II, from 1943 to 1946. He had been employed at John Deere Foundry as an inspector for 30 years, from which he retired in 1982. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Geneseo, Geneseo American Legion and the Don Cherry VFW Post No. 5083. He was an avid baseball fan, especially of the St. Louis Cardinals, and played for the Sieben Hybrids Fast Pitch softball team, where he played in the Fast Pitch World Series. He had been a coach for Geneseo Little League and Babe Ruth teams.
Survivors include two brothers, Clifford Anderson of Metropolis and Tom Anderson of Riverside, Calif., and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, two brothers, and a special friend, Bernice Klavohn in 2000.
