Paul Michael Schmidt, 60, of Parker, Texas, died May 29, 2009. Graveside services will be held at 10:15 a.m. July 11, at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church, Geneseo, with a lunch to follow.

He was born June 21, 1948, in Freeport, the son of the Rev. Ervin A. and Mildred A. Schmidt. He was raised in Geneseo. In 1969, he married Karen Loftus and received his bachelor’s degree from George Williams College in 1970. He served six years of military service in the Illinois Army National Guard from 1971 to 1977. He worked for Illini Beef Packers, Swift Independent Packing Co. and Darling Delaware for 19 years in various management positions before being hired by Hinderliter Heat Treating in 1990, where he worked until his retirement. Hinderliter was acquired by Bodycote in 1996. During his time at Hinderliter/Bodycote, he held the positions of Vice President of Human Resourses from 1990 to 1996; Director of Compliance - North America from 1996 to 2005; Director of Compliance - Americas from 2006 to 2007, and Director Learning Zone Creation from 2008 until his retirement. He felt he lived a storybook life and loved the great outdoors. Whether it was working in the yard, playing or watching sports, or just taking in the fresh air, he was in his element. He loved high school football and religiously trekked to the local stadium each week during football season to watch his teams’ warriors compete. But most of all he loved his family. He delighted in raising his children, the vacations alone on far distant islands with his caring wife, and watching his grandkids grow wise, spirited and strong.

Survivors include his wife, Karen; three sisters, Dianne, Nancy and Mary; a son, Troy; a daughter and spouse, Kristin and Christopher; and his beloved grandchildren, Hannah and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first born son, Michael.
