The Lady Leafs girls’ basketball team showed a wealth of possibilities during their season-opening win at the Temple’s Tip-Off Classic.

The Leafs dominated St. Bede in the second half for a 64-37 victory in Geneseo on Nov. 14.

The Leafs outscored the Bruins 33-10 in the second half, and Geneseo finished with three players scoring in double digits.

Jane Thomas, Lindsey Francque and Sydney Himmelman each chipped in 10 points to lead Geneseo’s offensive attack.

After missing all of last season with an ACL tear, Maddie Mackey scored the Leafs’ first points of the season in her return to the court.

The most impressive part of Geneseo’s win was the variety of lineup combinations the Leafs were able to put on the floor.

Geneseo had 14 players get into the game enabling the Leafs to attack the ball in the backcourt and push the ball on offense.

After showing their size advantage on the inside with Himmelman and Francque, Geneseo mixed in shooters off the bench in Thomas and Paige VandeWiele to spread out the defense.

VandeWiele finished with seven points including a 3-pointer, and Lynsey Gradert helped Geneseo’s mid-range shooting with five points.

Starting point guard Renee Rumler had a nice night scoring seven points and leading the break on several Geneseo scoring plays in the first half.

A senior, Morgan May continued to bring the same tenacious defense off the bench she displayed last year.

Geneseo’s Anna McAvoy exhibited she could be a scoring threat off the bench scoring six points with her aggressive play in the block.

A senior, Geneseo’s Abby Krohn made her debut in the second half with her intimidating 6’3” height.

Kendra Snider and Allison Yager scored two points off the bench.

The Leafs were excellent on the boards, and the second unit played suffocating defense on the interior.

The Lady Leafs’ next game in the Temple’s Tip-Off Classic tournament will be against LaSalle-Peru in Geneseo on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m.
