Geneseo at LaSalle-Peru

The Maple Leafs toppled third-ranked LaSalle-Peru with a tiebreaker decided on criteria on Jan. 5.

Geneseo earned the win because an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty was assessed on the Cavaliers during one of the bouts.

Ranked third in Class 2A by Illinois Matmen, Geneseo handed LaSalle-Peru (15-1) its first loss of the season.

The Maple Leafs’ Charlie Schlindwein began the match with a 10-6 victory by decision at 126 pounds.

Geneseo’s Jack Morrell notched a pin at 138 pounds in 3:23, and Josh Decker earned a win by decision at 145 pounds with an 8-1 score.

The Leafs’ Dameon Clementz scored a 12-6 win by decision at 152 pounds for Geneseo, and Ethan Kennedy picked up a 6-4 win by decision at 170 pounds.

Zach Humphrey dominated with a win by pin in 30 seconds at 220 pounds, and Sam Thomas finished the 285-pounds match with a pin in 2:11.

Springfield Quad

Geneseo earned three quality dual wins at the Springfield Quadrangular on Jan. 7.

Geneseo earned a 35-29 victory against Triad with four pins in the match.

The Maple Leafs’ Thomas won by pin in 2:43 at 285 pounds, and Humphrey notched a pin at 220-pounds in 1:24.

Geneseo’s Morrell nabbed a pin at 138-pounds in 1:36, and Benett Egert earned a pin in 1:58 at 152 pounds.

Luke Henkhaus won the 106-pounds match by technical fall, and Jordan Jackson opened the match with a win by decision at 182 pounds.

Kennedy picked up a win by decision at 170 pounds for the Leafs.

Against host Springfield, Geneseo used a good start to guide them to a 41-30 victory.

The Leafs’ Joe Stohl opened the match with a 15-4 major victory at 195 pounds, and Humphrey followed with a pin at 220 in 1:34.

Thomas earned a win by decision at 285, and Henkhaus notched a pin at 106 pounds in 3:25.

After Springfield rallied to take a 27-19 lead, Geneseo’s Decker picked up a win by pin at 145 pounds in 5:31.

Egert tallied a major decision 12-4 at 152 pounds, and Logan Weber gave Geneseo the edge with a pin at 160 pounds

Facing East Peoria, Geneseo rallied for a 51-21 victory.

Humphrey opened the match with a pin in 1:09 at 220 pounds.

With the match tied at 18 all, Geneseo would outscore East Peoria 23-3 to close out the match.

The Leafs’ Schlindwein earned a win by pin in 3:43 at 126 pounds, and Morrell made quick work of the match at 138 pounds with a pin in 32 seconds.

Decker tallied a win at 145 pounds in 3:51, and Kennedy nabbed a win by decision at 170 pounds.

Geneseo’s Stohl closed out the match with a victory by pin in at 195 pounds.

Geneseo at United Township

The Maple Leafs were unable to pull off a big comeback against the Panthers, falling 38-30 in East Moline on Jan. 10.

The match was tied at 15 all, but United Township built a 33-18 advantage with three matches remaining.

Geneseo’s Kennedy earned a win by decision with a 9-2 win at 170 pounds.

Humphrey won with a pin at 220 pounds in 1:04, and Augie Schmitt notched a pin for Geneseo at 132 in 3:15.

Henkhaus was a winner by decision at 106 pounds.
