Area softball from Thursday
DWIGHT — Hayley Schlabowske delivered in the clutch to lift Dwight to a 2-1 Sangamon Valley Conference softball victory over Watseka on Thursday. The win completed a series sweep for the Trojans.
Schlabowske’s second hit of the game came in the bottom of the eighth inning and ended the game as the winning run scored. Her first hit of the game came in the fourth inning and went for three bases to drive in the tying run, making it 1-1, where it stodd until the eighth.
Abby Edwards got the win after going eight innings in the circle. She walked one and allowed two hits. The run given up was unearned. It was scored in the top of the third inning.
Edwards finished with 13 strikeouts.
Schlabowske had a triple, single and two runs batted in to lead the DTHS offense. Kaitlyn Masching and LynnDee Hale each had two hits while Edwards contributed a two-base hit. Sydney Christensen singled.
WFC 5, Peoria Christian 4
SOUTH STREATOR — Emily Friese ended Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell’s Tri-County Conference softball game with a base hit in the 10th inning as the Warriors edged Peoria Christian 5-4 Thursday.
WFC lost a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning and needed to score a run in the bottom of the inning to even get to extra innings.
The Chargers plated two runs after two outs to take a 4-3 lead in the seventh. The Warriors answered with a run as Rachael Quaritsch blasted a home run for the equalizer. It also came with two outs.
Elise Kane and Quaritsch had run-scoring singles in the second inning for the Warriors for a 2-0 lead. Peoria Christian tied it in the fifth inning but WFC regained the lead when Shea Moritz singled home Quaritsch to make it 3-2.
Quaritsch had a homer, two singles, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Warriors. Friese had a triple, single and run batted in while Kane also had two hits and an RBI. Kaitlyn Walter singled twice and Moritz had a hit.
August Gillman went the distance, allowing four runs on eight hits and one walk. She struck out 10.
